Our Team
At W.D. Hunt & Associates we only practice in the area of Personal Injury and Compensation Law. This is why we are able to work quickly and expertly to deal with our client’s Personal Injury or Compensation claims as well as being able to draw on a wide and varied team of specialised experts to provide evidence in support of our client’s Personal Injury or Compensation claims.
Wendy Hunt, an Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law, who has been practicing in this area for the past 17 years is the driving force behind our Firm. Wendy has been a member of the Westmead Hospital Legal Panel for over 16 years providing free legal advice to hospital patients. Only a small handful of solicitors in New South Wales were selected for their expertise and experience to provide this service. Wendy’s involvement in the Westmead Hospital Legal Panel has led to her development of close relationships with doctors, occupational therapists and other medical practitioners whom she is able to call on to provide expert medical advice and reports for clients. These reports are invaluable in compensation claims.
In addition, Wendy’s exposure to patients in the hospital has given her invaluable experience in recognising symptoms in clients that have yet to be diagnosed by doctors. Wendy specialises in providing her expert legal advice to severely injured clients including those suffering from traumatic brain injuries and amputations as a result of their accident. On numerous occasions Wendy has recognised symptoms of brain injury and many other injuries which have been overlooked by doctors.
It is Wendy’s prior background as a social welfare worker that drives her compassionate approach towards clients coupled with her extensive legal knowledge, that allows her to look for the true value of the case and includes home visits, talking to family and friends of the injured person.
We have an extensive collection of doctors whom we refer our clients to for independent assessment, and who are all well respected experts in their fields of specialty. Some of those doctors are; Associate Professor Michael Fearnside, Dr Stephen Buckley, Rehabilitation Specialist; Dr Patricia Jungfer, Consultant Psychiatrist specialising in brain injury; Dr Andrew McClure, Psychiatrist; Dr Alan Searle, Orthopaedic Specialist; all of whom are trained medical assessors Approved by the Motor Accidents Authority and/or the Workers Compensation Commission.
We also use specialist Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Physiotherapists who can assist with needs assessments and claims for care. We use Australian Rehabworks Pty Ltd and their extensive experience and services can be viewed on their homepage.
We brief extremely experienced barristers and Queens Counsel mostly from Jack Shand Chambers and have a strong working relationship with these barristers.
As well as the expert medical panel that Wendy draws on to substantiate the medical injuries of her clients, there are further members of the team including Forensic Engineers and Bio-Mechanical Engineers who can look at the scene of an accident and reconstruct what has occurred and what could have been done to prevent the accident. We also have Forensic Accountants who can prepare detailed Economic Loss Reports and calculate losses, not just wages and projected wage increments in the future, but for superannuation losses.
Supporting Wendy in her quest to maximise the amount of compensation her clients receive is Private Investigator Lianne Schollum. Lianne understands the type of evidence needed in personal injury and compensation claims and attends the site of the accident, takes investigative photographs and interviews any witnesses to the accident.
It is this wide network of investigators, doctors and other medical practitioners, forensic engineers and accountants and barristers that enables Wendy to be as precise and thorough as possible in amassing evidence to support her clients’ compensation claims. The unofficial motto of our Firm is “Nothing is guess work”. This means that we are extremely thorough in our investigations of our clients’ accidents as well as their medical evidence and diagnosis. It is this approach that allows us to fulfil our goal of maximising the amount of compensation our clients receive.
